Hello!
With all of the craziness going around I wanted to spread a little bit of positive energy and help while trying to stock up on things at the grocery store. It is recommended that we eat produce with the seasons so that we get the best quality and nutrient packed fruits and vegetables. Eating with the seasons also helps our local farmers who farm sustainably.
Here is a link of produce that is in season for spring! There are some fruits and vegetables that I have never seen or heard of before so it was nice to learn about new produce.
Below I will list the produce that I enjoy during the spring time.
*Collard Greens
*Corn
*Green Beans
*Honey Dew Melon
*Limes
*Mustard Greens
*Oranges
*Peas
*Pineapple (unfortunately I can only eat canned pineapple now because the enzymes in fresh pineapple give me an allergy-like reaction)
*Strawberries (My favorite food)
*Onions (I use these ALL YEAR, and in pretty much every meal)
Because of the hysteria of everything that is going on with this virus, I think that it is in our nature to want to be prepared, especially after seeing the effects of it in other countries. Most of the shelves are bare; paper goods and cleaning products are hard to come by and nearly all of the canned goods are gone. However, the fresh fruits and vegetables are still fully stocked. These are the things that we need to be stocking up on! Things that we can cut and portion ourselves to throw in the freezer. No preservatives, no salt or other solutions, just raw produce packed with the nutrients that you will NEED to make it through the quarantine time and remain healthy. Everything listed above you can freeze except for maybe the limes, but limes can last for a long time in the fridge.
The actual link with all of the spring produce has a lot of options, of which most of them can be frozen and added to many different dishes. Just something to think about when going to the stores.
What are some of the foods on the list that you like to eat and plan to stock up on?
