General Tso's Wings

Hello!

Today I want to share with you the General Tso' Wings that I made a couple of weeks ago. We've made General Tso' Chicken before with chicken breast and it always comes out extremely well but the bag of chicken breast that we had in the freezer was too much to thaw out just for this purpose so I used wings instead.

I washed and seasoned the wings with a salt-free seasoning blend, red pepper flakes, garlic powder, minced onion, fresh cracked pepper and a little bit of Italian seasoning. Simple but effective seasonings. I made sure all of the wings were well seasoned and then added them to a hot pan with olive oil to let them start cooking.

I let the wings cook in roughly 4 minute intervals on each side until they had a nice golden brown color and the perfect crisp was reached. I cooked them on medium heat.

While the wings were cooking I prepared the general tso' sauce. There are many different recipes online for the sauce so you will definitely be able to find a recipe that fits your tastes.

The ingredients that we put in ours include:

  • Ketchup

  • Brown Sugar

  • Apple Cider Vinegar

  • Hot Sauce (Texas Pete for our preferences lol)

  • Red Pepper Flakes

  • Soy Sauce

We use the ketchup as the base of our sauce and then add the other ingredients until we have reached the taste that we are going for that day. I think that is one of the things that I like most about cooking my own food, you can always tailor it to how you're feeling that day.

Once the wings reached the perfect color and crisp, I lowered the heat and slowly added in the sauce.

I flipped and coated all of them wings with the sauce and let them simmer on low heat for about 5 minutes to give the sauce time to heat up and all the flavors to come out and open up.

For the final touch I put them in the oven on broil for about 2 minutes to give them their final crisp and brownness. The first bite of a flat (my personal favorite) was absolutely satisfying and perfect paired with rice and green beans.

All in all it probably took about 1 hour and 30 minutes to cook the wings along with the sides. I was also able to do other things in the meantime while they were cooking which is a huge help.

This a simple meal to make because the sauce doesn't involve an extensive list of ingredients and most of them are things that we already have in our kitchen.

The next time I make it I will measure the amounts of all of the ingredients that I use to make the sauce and add it to this page so that you have a reference to go by if you decide to make it!

Hope you guys enjoy!
