Tomato, Basil, & Garlic Volanti Pasta

Updated: Jun 9, 2020

As someone who likes to cook, find recipes, and make my own products, I also like to try new items out. The ones I really enjoy trying are healthier alternatives to normal processed foods and seeing how they rate taste and ingredients wise.

This day I decided to try the Knorr Selects packaged pasta in the Tomato, Basil, Garlic flavor.

I was a little skeptical because the regular pasta sides have all types of preservatives and additives that we should not be consuming. Sometimes we need something quick and convenient to have for part of a meal but we can't eat things like that all the time.

The package claimed that there were no preservatives, additives, msg, etc. but I had to look at the ingredients for myself before I bought it.

It had ingredients that I could pronounce and understand the source of where they came from. The only thing I had to re-familiarize myself with is maltodextrin. It's an additive that is made from rice, potatoes, corn, or wheat and it is in made into a powder form to help with thickening and preserving. It is something that can be consumed but like with most processed products, should try to limit them as much as possible. It was on the lower end of the list so I decided to still give it a try.

I read the instructions and added the recommended amount of water along with the contents of the package and heated it to a boil.

I continued to let the pasta boil for a few minutes and then lowered the temperature to a simmer. In the meantime I washed and cut a few fresh mushrooms to add to the pasta for added nutrients and added flavor.

After cutting them, I sautéed them in a pan with Olive Oil on medium heat. After they were sautéed to perfection I added them to the pasta.

The finished product was absolutely amazing! We paired some grilled steak we had the previous day and topped the pasta with parmesan cheese. I think we had salads or mixed greens for our vegetable but I don't like certain foods to touch so I had to put it on a separate plate lol

All in all, I would definitely buy this pasta again. It was simple to make and it was the perfect side to pair with the steak we were having. Most importantly, it has real ingredients so I felt a lot better about eating it. The smell of it was very fragrant and warming. The basil and garlic definitely came through in the cooking process. The taste was pretty good as well. The only thing I added on top was a little bit of fresh cracked pepper and the Parmesan cheese. The only thing I would say is that it doesn’t cook down to much afterwards so if you are feeding more than two people I would recommend at least 2 or 3 packages. I believe there were about 4 different variations of these pasta sides so I will try those and let you know how they are. This one is a 8.5 out of 10.

Have you tried this before? If so, how did you feel about it?

Let me know!

Until next time,
