Uh huh, Honey!

Updated: May 19, 2020

Hello All!

Maybe you've guessed by the title what the topic of discussion is, or maybe you're completely lost lol Kanye West or Beyonce?.... NEITHER!

Today we'll be talking about the wonderful effects of RAW HONEY 🍯 .

Honey is very versatile and has so many benefits whether it is being consumed or used topically in a mask for your skin or face. Growing up, most of us are told t drink hot tea with honey and lemon when we have a cold, sore throat, or cough but do we really know why? Honey acts a natural cough suppressant and also coats the throat when consumed. It also contains antioxidants that work with the antioxidants in the tea and lemon to help your body heal and fight.

If you're like me and don't like coffee but drink hot tea instead I would suggest trying honey if you need a sweetener instead of sugar or an artificial sweetener if you are able to tolerate it and it is safe for you to use.

This is just one of the MANY benefits of honey. I will list a few more below:

  • It contains antibacterial and anti-fungal properties which makes it a natural antiseptic.

  • Helps in the healing of wounds and burns.

  • Natural cough suppressant.

  • Has traces of roughly 15 amino acids!

  • NATURAL

  • Can be used in a variety of ways and in different forms.

When buying honey it is always best to buy RAW and check the nutritional label on the back to make sure the only ingredient is honey. It's going to be more expensive than other brands but it is the only way to ensure that you are actually getting honey and not high fructose corn syrup, which you will not get any health benefits from. It is also best to get raw honey because once it is heated the benefits are significantly reduced if it is not raw.

You can buy raw honey from pretty much any grocery store and also from farmer's markets. I usually get our honey from Aldi and the most recent kind that I got was the clover honey. It's not raw but I made sure that the only ingredient was honey. Clover honey is one of the better choices of honey as it has those benefits that I talked about above.

Although honey is a naturally derived form of sweetness, we still need to be cautious about how much we consume because it is till considered an added sugar. But with most things, naturally sourced products are best and everything in moderation.

I personally like to use honey in my tea with lemon, I use it as a sweetener in some dishes that I make, and I also make a body scrub with honey, coconut oil, and sugar.

Do you use honey in your daily living? If so, what ways do you use it?

Until next time,
