I previously worked at a local hospital that is about 30 minutes away from where I live. I was hired to work in the diet office to take patients orders and assist them with orders as needed. We assist patients with their orders two ways. The first is that we call them directly to make sure that we get a meal for them each meal period. If they are not able to use the phone then we go upstairs and take their orders at the bedside. We also do bedside orders for all of the patients that are in the intensive care unit because they don't have phones in their rooms. We take orders over the phone for two hospitals so our patient count usually ranges from 170 to roughly 500. Working in the diet office has given me a lot of experience in areas that I didn't know were possible but within the first year I had pretty much gotten all of the different tasks down packed and I became bored. I'm somebody that genuinely enjoys talking to people in person rather than on the phone and moving around, not being stationary for my entire shift.
Thank God, I had an amazing boss who truly cares about her employees and tries the help them to the best of her abilities. She noticed that my spark was gone and I was bored so she took it upon herself to talk to me and try to figure out something that would give me the excitement that I was missing. She knew my educational background and knew that I was willing to get experience to further my career, no matter what the opportunity was. That is how Wellness Wednesdays were created.
Every month we had a "super food of the month" in the cafeteria for health and promotional purposes. We usually have recipes, snacks, drinks, and other goodies with that specific super food all decorated on a display in the cafeteria. So my job was to find a recipe for the super food and do a demonstration/sampling at 3 different locations each month. This has exposed me to a lot of different recipes and also gives me experience in talking about the super foods and what makes them a super food. It also gave me a chance to collaborate with my coworkers, other professionals and the chefs from each facility.
These are the super food demos and recipes I did.
